Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Yap collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our real-time AI translation app, website, support channels, and related services.

Yap is built for live voice translation. We do not sell personal information, we do not use your conversations for advertising, and we provide in-app account deletion for Yap-controlled data.

1. Who we are

Yap provides real-time speech translation, captions, translation history, account management, and subscription features. For privacy questions or data requests, contact us at ty@friendlytech.org.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in, our authentication provider may provide us with identifiers such as your user ID, email address, name, profile image, authentication status, and related account metadata.

Translation session information

To run a translation, Yap processes microphone audio, selected target language, microphone mode, connection status, timestamps, session duration, quota usage, and technical metadata needed to connect your app to the translation service.

Yap may save completed session transcripts, translated text, source and target language, session status, and start/end timestamps so your conversation history works in the app.

Subscription and purchase information

We use RevenueCat and the Apple App Store or Google Play Store to manage subscriptions. We receive purchase status, entitlement status, product identifiers, renewal status, and non-payment-card transaction metadata. Payment card details are handled by the app stores and are not stored by Yap.

Device, app, and server information

We may collect app version, platform, device type, IP address, request logs, error logs, security events, API response status, and similar diagnostic information to operate and protect Yap.

Support communications

If you contact us, we collect the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message contents, screenshots, and details needed to respond.

3. Information we do not intentionally collect

Yap does not intentionally collect contact lists, precise GPS location, photos, videos, health data, or advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking. Yap does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for targeted advertising.

5. Microphone audio and AI translation

Yap needs microphone access to translate speech. During a live session, audio is sent through secure connections to our API and to OpenAI's real-time translation service so translated audio and captions can be returned to your device. Yap does not use your microphone in the background for unrelated purposes.

AI translations can be imperfect. Avoid using Yap as the sole source for emergencies, medical, legal, financial, or other high-risk communications.

We share information with service providers only as needed to provide and protect Yap, including:

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate abuse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets.

7. Retention and deletion

We keep account, translation history, quota, and subscription-related records for as long as needed to provide Yap, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent abuse, and enforce our terms. You can request deletion from the app where account deletion is available, or by contacting us.

Account deletion removes Yap-controlled account data and translation records where technically and legally possible. Some records may remain in backups, security logs, app store systems, payment records, or third-party provider systems according to their retention policies and legal requirements.

8. Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypted connections, authenticated APIs, provider access controls, and database row-level access controls. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. International processing

Yap and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. These countries may have privacy laws different from where you live.

10. Children's privacy

Yap is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can take appropriate action.

11. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, export, or restrict use of your personal information. You may also have the right to object to certain processing or appeal a privacy decision. To make a request, contact ty@friendlytech.org.

California and other U.S. state residents: Yap does not sell personal information and does not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. We also do not knowingly sell or share personal information of minors.

12. App store privacy disclosures

App store privacy labels may identify data categories such as user identifiers, purchases, app activity, diagnostics, audio, and user content/transcripts depending on current platform rules and app configuration. Those labels are a summary; this Privacy Policy controls if more detail is needed.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Yap changes. If an update is material, we will provide notice through the app, website, or another reasonable method. The effective date above shows when this policy was last updated.
